Even thought I do not agree in all areas with Aristotle, he was deninitely one of the greatest metaphysical minds the world has seen.

"THE investigation of the truth is in one way hard, in another easy. An indication of this is found in the fact that no one is able to attain the truth adequately, while, on the other hand, we do not collectively fail, but every one says something true about the nature of things, and while individually we contribute little or nothing to the truth, by the union of all a considerable amount is amassed." -- Aristotle, Metaphisics

Thank you, BakuninXL!
Taking into account that his "scientific" theories were all misguided, based on little or no experimental evidence, and that they were put forth as truths to be believed as though they were religious ones, Aristotle can hardly be called the father of modern scientific thought. If anything, he's the father of movements that attempt to suppress scientific thought - the Church went to great lengths to justify its scientific conservatism on that basis that everything had already been done by Aristotle.
